Hello Band!
Thanks for a good rehearsal on April 19. A couple of points:
1. Waltzes of Richard Rodgers -- We will take the repeats. We will play through the tenth bar of rehearsal #15, and then skip to rehearsal #19 to finish the piece.
2. Trauersinfonie -- We will ignore the repeat sign before the coda. Play right through the repeat sign and through the code to finish the piece.
That should do it for now. See you on Monday the 26th!

Village Band members,
Greetings. The order for the Saturday, April 3 performance goes as follows:
1. Feuerfest (we will also warm up to this pieces) 2. Bach, Kom Susser Tod 3. Under the Double Eagle 4. The Bass in the Ballroom 5. American Civil War Fantasy 6. Big Band Classics 7. Colonel Bogey 8. The Klaxon (maybe)
I know we have worked on Cats, but we did not rehearse it last evening, and would rather not do any hard core rehearsing before we perform on Saturday (to save the energy and chops). I think we should be fine with Feuerfest since we have used that as a warm up in the past.
Thanks folks. See you Saturday.

Hi all!
Thanks for another great rehearsal last evening. We did not get to a few things that we will begin with next week (March 8). Work on the last part of Cats, especially the part from Memory to the end. We will play through the tuba solo next week. Joe is preparing the solo on CC tuba. We will have him play along next week if he would like a run through.
The marches and Big Band Classics would be good for our outdoor concerts. Dust off Big Band Classics. We will run that next week. We will continue to polish all the music we rehearsed last evening.
See you March 8!

Hello everyone!
Thanks for coming to rehearsal on Monday, 2/22. All things considered, it was pretty warm in the band room and I think we were all feeling it by the end of the rehearsal. Next Monday (March 1) we will work on the last 30 - 50 measures of our big works. I think "Memory" (last tune of the CATS medley) needs work. The final third of "Italian in Algiers" needs work. The final tune of the Civil War Medley (after the battle) needs to be rehearsed. Take a look at all these areas. We will continue to work the marches. We might even re-visit the Bach and take another look at the Wagner.
Thanks again and I'll see you March 1!

Hello everyone!
I will give the concert repertoire and concert orders before the Memorial Day performance (i.e., next week). We will run quite a bit of music on May 24 (some pieces for the Memorial Day concert will not be on the Carol Woods Concert and Vice Versa). We will also prepare the Armed Forces Medley for Memorial Day.
Tenor voices should look at the intro to America the Beautiful (moving eighth note lines). Flutes should look at the measure before Rehearsal #4 and measures immediately after in the Rodgers medley. We will work these spots at the next rehearsal.
See you on Monday!

Greetings Band! This is the first time I have tried to post on my own. I hope this goes through! Thanks to Randy for his assistance!
Anyway, thanks for a great rehearsal on Monday, February 15, 2010. We covered quite a bit of ground! Some pieces we did not get to were Cats, Florentiner, Klaxon and the Waltz Medley. Take a look at all of those for Monday, February 22. The theme of last evening's rehearsal was "separated and pointed eighth notes." Think about this style when you play through the pieces we worked on as a group. Play though the busy spots in Algiers and Under the Double Eagle slowly and gradually work your way up to speed.
We will see you on the 22nd!

Thanks for a good first 2010 rehearsal. Some things to consider before our January 11 rehearsal: 1.
Try to get with a tuner before next week if you have one. The cold
weather does have an effect on ALL instruments. Make sure you play for
at least 15 to 20 minutes before you tune.
2. Take care of your instrument. Keep your instrument in a
constant temperature zone. Quick extreme temperature changes can
damage damage your instrument. As far as literature goes: 1.
Italian in Algiers -- we will rehearse this piece first next week. We
will probably read a march after we play some scales. I will pick
something other than Under the Double Eagle for starters.
2. Take a look at the "Cats" Medley. We passed this one out in September. 3. Wagner -- The following link is a pretty good version of the piece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79Zuwn3q7fw
4. We will continue to work on Florentiner as well as the other marches. See you on January 11! Jack |
